In many homes the table is a gathering place. Meals are shared at the family table where everyone has their seat. Louie Giglio wrote a book titled Don’t Give the Enemy a Seat at Your Table. He wrote this based on an incident in his life when he felt attacked and wanted vindication. A friend’s advice was simply don’t give the enemy a seat at your table. How can we feel safe at a table in the presence my our enemies?

In Psalm 23 talked about having a shepherd that cared for him. David knew what it meant to be a shepherd. Sheep are easy prey, they will wander from the flock into danger, they are susceptible to disease and starvation. God wants to care and provide and defend us as a shepherd does his sheep. David knew he must rely on God completely as sheep do their shepherd.

Our great shepherd calls to us and wants to care for us. He will always be there and invites us to have a relationship with Him. Verse 5 of Psalm 23 says He prepares a table in the presence of my enemies. It doesn’t say we are in His presence and our enemies are absent. God says rather that no matter what is surrounding us He has prepared a place of safety in the midst of the troubles.

Bad things happen to good people that are hard to understand. Answers to the hard questions are hard to find. We live in a fallen world. God knows these troubles and that’s why He prepares that table in the midst of the troubles. He can bring goodness in those times for His glory. He deserves the glory for all the answers, healing, comfort we find when we are in the midst of enemies.

It isn’t easy to let God be our shepherd. We tend to make choices and decisions that we invite God to travel along side of us. We should ask God what direction to take. Psalm 23 says God makes us to lay in green pastures. When we allow Him to guide we will find ourselves in green pastures of peace and comfort. The table has been prepared and we must answer the invitation to sit down.

The devil will attempt to put a chair at that table. He tried to sit at Jesus’s table in the wilderness and tempt Him. He put at chair at Eve’s table in the Garden of Eden. Our enemy will into asking questions that cause you to question God’s direction in your life. The devil’s purpose is to steal, kill, and destroy. He is the master of lies.

Lies of Satan

  1. It’s always better on the other side.
  2. You are not good enough.
  3. You are not going to make it.
  4. You’ll begin to question what am I going to do without seeing God.
  5. Everybody is against me.

You can take control of your table. God will walk through the shadows with you. You can continue with God at your side. Through the power given you through the crucified lamb of calvary, Who has won the victory over every stronghold, Who has given me power to take every thought captive and make it obedient unto God, you can take authority over your table.

How to take control over your table

  1. Focus your eyes on God.
  2. Read His word.
  3. Listen to everything God say to me.

We can win the battle of our mind by filling our mind with the truth of God’s word about us. Romans 8:38 says we are more than conquerors through Him. Matthew reminded us in chapter 11:28 that God has called the weary and burdened and He will give us rest. Paul told us in Romans 8:1 that there is no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus. And Psalm 100:3 says know that the Lord is God. It is He Who made us, and we are His; we are His people, the sheep of His pasture.
