Maybe the witnesses around us, in the Bible before our time and in our own time, right beside us, maybe all these various witnesses are just as various as the clouds in the sky.
Who is in Your Cloud of Witnesses
You and I are surrounded by witnesses this morning, people in the Bible, and people around us, who have given shape to faith. The shapes around us are not all the same shape, or even the same substance. But each of the shapes around you and me are ways that fellow saints have met the challenges of daily life. The parents and godparents surround their children as a cloud of witness. They are here to pass on their particular “witness” to the chid. Blessings to all these shapes of clouds! Who is in your cloud of witnesses?
Hebrews 12:1-2
Therefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
At the heart of the discussion of the early church activity is the Christian duty of witness. As the clouds received the Lord Jesus up from the sight of the Apostles, Jesus gave a prophetic utterance concerning the church age and the evangelical nature of the mission and vision o the Christian Church until He returns.

The witnesses are the spectators pressing round to see the competitors in their contest for the prize. They are cheering us on. Family and friends of the faith who have gone on before us are watching with joy that we will finish the race with honor. Who is in your cloud?
