The Wideness of God's Mercy

The Wideness of God’s Mercy

We can find ourselves in moments of despair but God promises His mercy is wider than the sea. We are saved because of His great mercy.

Psalm 136 is a psalm of thanksgiving for God’s mercy. David gave this psalm to the Levites to sing every day. Each verse ends with “may His mercy endure forever.” the Bible reminds us that whatever is happening in our lives we should keep our eyes on Him. Because His mercy endures forever. Praise should remain on our lips because He will never forsake us.

When instituting the Lord’s supper, the people went out singing. It is believed Psalm 136 is the song they sang. There is a wideness in God’s mercy that is wider than the sea. People have tried to put God in a box. They want a God they can control and manipulate.

Micah 6:8
He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.
And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God.

Some take Matthew 7:13-14 and decide God’s mercy is narrow. God’s mercy is wide and sufficient for all of us. Titus 3:5 tells us His mercy saved us. We aren’t saved because our parents are saved or because we attend church. We are saved because of His great mercy.

We can find ourselves in a moments of despair but God promises His mercy is everlasting. When Jesus shows up in our life, the evil ones must leave. They become tormented by the mercy of God. If we call on Him, He will show us the wideness of His mercy. We are surrounded by the mercy of God.

Lamentations 3:21-23
21 Yet this I call to mind
and therefore I have hope:
22 Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail.
23 They are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.

Romans 5:6-8
You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 8:32
He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?

Psalm 117:2
For great is his love toward us,
and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever.
Praise the Lord.
