The root system of a plant is its lifeline. All it’s nutrients and water come through the roots, that’s why it’s difficult for shallow rooted plants to survive. It sprouts up and looks good, then it withers when roots don’t reach deep enough to find water and food for survival. The same is true for us in our spiritual life. We need our roots to reach deep into the lifeline that God provides. (Luke 8:13 Those on the rocky ground are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it. but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in time of testing they fall away.) Some people hear God’s Word and get excited about it without allowing it to change them. They respond emotionally, superficially, or impulsively, but don’t allow the Word to change their hearts. The first trial, or dry spell is more than they can take and they wither away. Growing deep in God requires a daily communication through reading the Bible and praying. Every day you need a time to grow deeper in God in order to prepare yourself for what life throws your way. Sooner or later you will face those hard times and your faith and belief in God’s Mercy and Grace is all that will sustain you. Grow deep enough to reach that level in your spiritual walk. Pastor Don
