How often have you seen very smart people who had no common sense? They were able to do the seemingly impossible things and yet couldn’t figure out something that seemed very simple to you. I think one of the ways that we hear from God every day is through wisdom and common sense. Wisdom helps us discern the truth in a situation, while common sense provides good judgement regarding how and what to do with that truth. True wisdom is not learned, God is the giver of wisdom. (Proverbs 3:13 Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding.) How often could you have done something, and been right in doing it, but you had the common sense not to do it? Where does that sudden knowledge come from? It comes from God!! If you don’t have the wisdom to handle a situation, ask God to give it to you. James tells us that if we are lacking wisdom to ask God who gives it liberally. Although we walk by faith and have the Holy Spirit to direct our lives, we still live in a real world where we need to use wisdom and have common sense to deal with issues the right way. When we seek wisdom from God, He always provides us with answers. Our relationship with God is what causes us to make wise choices in all the little matters we face each day.
