While drinking coffee this past week with some friends, we were discussing the death of one of our acquaintances. The statement was made, “There is not that many things that are important in life are there?” I have rehearsed that statement several times this week and it is so true. There are not that many things that are really important in life. Jesus told us that there is only one place worth investing our time and effort and that is to lay up treasures in heaven where they are secure. They are the only things that are important. (Matthew 6:20 Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal.) Most people are building their lives on a foundation of materialism and money. They want more and more of what this world has to offer, and there is nothing wrong with having nice things. Most of us have been so blessed throughout our lives to live in a country that has the highest standard of living on planet earth. Every thing we need is at our fingertips. We need to heed the words of this verse this morning and make certain we keep our priorities in the right place. Without God life loses its zeal and purpose and meaning. Make sure we know what is really important in life. Work for the right things. Pastor Don
