Trust in Your Heavenly Treasure
We need to ask ourselves what will I do with Jesus. And ask what will Jesus do with me. Put your trust in your heavenly treasure and follow Jesus.
Childlike Trust
Trust in your heavenly treasure is the basis of our relationship with God. Childlike trust will bring happiness and comfort. Trust that God will never forsake us and Jesus will always intercede for us will keep you in perfect peace.
Mark 10:13-16
13 Then they brought little children to Him, that He might touch them; but the disciples rebuked those who brought them. 14 But when Jesus saw it, He was greatly displeased and said to them, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God. 15 Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.” 16 And He took them up in His arms, laid His hands on them, and blessed them.
Trust in the Law
However, trust in the law only will not complete the peace available to believers. The old law of commandments and sacrifice could not erase sins the way the new covenant established with the death and resurrection of Jesus has.
Hebrews 10:1-4
For the law, having a shadow of the good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with these same sacrifices, which they offer continually year by year, make those who approach perfect. 2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? For the worshipers, once purified, would have had no more consciousness of sins. 3 But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. 4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins.
Trust in Your Heavenly Treasure
The rich young ruler said he had lived a life according to the law. He told Jesus he had kept the law all his life. The young ruler felt he had lived a good life according to the law. This is comparison to others. there is no blessing in comparing ourselves to other people. Good works are to bring glory to God. We should be a representative of God’s faithfulness.
Jesus instructed him to give up his attachment to worldly goods. He was asking the young man to exchange his earthly treasures for His heavenly treasures. Jesus asks us to take up the cross of discipleship and lead others to follow Him.
Romans 8:8
So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
Mark 10:17-24
- 17 Now as He was going out on the road, one came running, knelt before Him, and asked Him, “Good Teacher, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?”
- 18 So Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God.
- 19 You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery,’ ‘Do not murder,’ ‘Do not steal,’ ‘Do not bear false witness,’ ‘Do not defraud,’ ‘Honor your father and your mother.’ ”
- 20 And he answered and said to Him, “Teacher, all these things I have kept from my youth.”
- 21 Then Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, “One thing you lack: Go your way, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, take up the cross, and follow Me.”
- 22 But he was sad at this word, and went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.
- 23 Then Jesus looked around and said to His disciples, “How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God!”
- 24 And the disciples were astonished at His words. But Jesus answered again and said to them, “Children, how hard it is [a]for those who trust in riches to enter the kingdom of God!
