The Christmas story is one of the most famous. It isn’t just a story. God had a purpose for coming in humility when He could have come in majesty.

Jesus came to remove the misconceptions of God.

Some believe that God is against you. Some believe that He is a God Who out to get you because of the sin you have committed. Some believe He is a God Who takes pleasure in your pain. Still others believe that God doesn’t care about them. The story of Christmas is a story of Jesus coming to earth to remove the misconceptions we have about God.

Matthew 16:13-16
¹³ When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?”

¹⁴ They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”

¹⁵ “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”

¹⁶ Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”

Jesus came to make known to man Who God is.

God is not far off looking on. He is standing alone side you in your pain and grief. He know what you’re going through. He cares and wants you to know Him. He is a God Who loves you and wants you to know and love Him. The story of Christmas is Jesus loves us.

John 1:18
No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.

Jesus came to reveal the love of God.

One of the most well known verses in the Bible is John 3:16. You see it on signs. People write it on their bodies. We quote it often in churches. The is the message of Christmas. Jesus came to reveal the love of God.

John 3:16
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Jesus came to enable us to have a relationship with God.

The only reason you ar alive today is God wanted to love you. The reason you are live is God wanted to have relationship with you. He loves you and came to establish a relationship with you. God is interested in relationship, not religion.

John 8:12
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Jesus came to give life a purpose.

Jesus ministry on earth lasted only about three years. His disciples were given the great commission to spread the gospel message to all the world. You and I have the task of showing the world Who God is, how much He loves us, how He longs to have relationship with you.

Matthew 28:18-20
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. ¹⁹ Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,²⁰ and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
