Jesus Bore Our Cross

Jesus Bore Our Cross

Jesus is our sacrificial lamb that bore our cross having been crucified upon a cross of wood. On God’s command for Abraham to sacrifice his son, Isaac carried the wood for the sacrificial fire.

Pilot washed his hands of the sentence the Jews wanted Jesus to suffer. They profoundly accepted the responsibility of His death. They claimed responsibility for shedding His blood. When the Angel of Death claimed the first born of Egypt, it was the blood of a sacrificial lamb painted on the doorframe that saved all inside that dwelling. Jesus gave His blood as a willing sacrifice for the sins of the whole world.

Matthew 27:25-37
25 And all the people answered and said, “His blood be on us and on our children.”
26 Then he released Barabbas to them; and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered Him to be crucified.
27 Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole garrison around Him.
28 And they stripped Him and put a scarlet robe on Him.
29 When they had twisted a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed in His right hand. And they bowed the knee before Him and mocked Him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!”
30 Then they spat on Him, and took the reed and struck Him on the head.
31 And when they had mocked Him, they took the robe off Him, put His own clothes on Him, and led Him away to be crucified.
32 Now as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name. Him they compelled to bear His cross.
33 And when they had come to a place called Golgotha, that is to say, Place of a Skull,
34 they gave Him sour wine mingled with gall to drink. But when He had tasted it, He would not drink.
35 Then they crucified Him, and divided His garments, casting lots, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet:
“They divided My garments among them,

And for My clothing they cast lots.”
36 Sitting down, they kept watch over Him there.
37 And they put up over His head the accusation written against Him:
THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

Crucified outside the city where criminals and thieves were executed, He achieved victory over sin. Adam’s sin separated us from God. Likewise, Jesus was banished in death to defeat death in sin for us.

Matthew 16:16-24
16 Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
17 Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.
18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.
19 And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”
20 Then He commanded His disciples that they should tell no one that He was Jesus the Christ.
21 From that time Jesus began to show to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day.
22 Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, “Far be it from You, Lord; this shall not happen to You!”
23 But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me,Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.”
24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.

Jesus bore a cross for us. He was made to carry the cross bar for his crucifixion through and out of the city to the hill called Golgotha. Just as Isaac carried the wood, Jesus carried the tool of His death.

We all have a cross to bear for Him. God uses ordinary people to do extraordinary things. He became like everyone of us to say He came and died for everyone. Anyone who calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved. Jesus willingly bore a cross for us. Bearing His cross in spreading the news of His saving grace for all is not a burden but a blessed sacrifice.
