God Gave Us Victory
Was there a person this Christmas that gave you a gift that you were not expecting? A gift that you didn’t expect to receive, nor were you prepared to reciprocate in giving because you have nothing equal to exchange for the gift. God has given us a gift that we were not expecting and we certainly have nothing of equal value to give back to God.
God has given us a gift that will help us end 2024 and begin 2025.
God has given us the gift of victory. He gave us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 15:54-58
When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.” “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
We take many verses out of context. Many would say that you are always victorious in everything you face because God has given you the victory and his favor is on us. We are going to win, but graveyards are full of examples that we don’t win every battle in this life. In 1 Corinthians 15:57, Paul is not so much concerned about external victories as he is about the internal victory God has promised over sin.
Victory is something that continues to happen.
When I wake up everyday, I’m faced with choices. Will I win today? Every time that sin, habit, our past rears it’s ugly head and says “You belong to me”. “I have conquered you.” The righteousness of God that Jesus Christ imparted through the holy spirit into your life says, “I have given you the victory.” God gives us victory with every rising of the sun. Every day there is a battle to be fought and victory to be received from God. God gives us the expectation of victory in our lives, but he expects us put in the work for it.
Don’t quit
Don’t get caught up in the struggles of your life that you give up the fight for victory, Don’t tell yourself if you “quiet quit” then no one will notice it except for you. Don’t put up a front and quietly drift along in misery and defeat, losing every battle in your life that God has already given you victory over. How miserable would it be to live as a Christian with the promise that God gives you but you continually live in defeat because you no longer put forth the effort it takes to win.
We are forgiven
We know that we are not perfect. There was only one who lived a perfect life and that was Jesus. But, as Christians, we can say we are forgiven. We don’t have to be a slave to our guilt, our sin, our shame. God has forgiven us. We need to leave our past at Jesus’ feet and live our lives victoriously through Jesus. You can enjoy the gift in your life if you stand firm. Let nothing move you. Give yourself fully to the work of the lord. Thanks be to God who gives us the victory!
The Promised Victory
There will always be issues, problems, and setbacks when you are in route to the promised victory. Don’t be moved by what you see, but be motivated by what you know. God gave you the gift to do it. God gave you a chance to do it. God gave you the ability to do it. God gave you the sling. God gave you the stones. God said don’t stop doing what I have equipped you to do. There will be giants along the way, but I have already given you the victory.
