Jesus was very busy during His ministry engaging with people. In a story from the book of Luke, He providentially arranged events to help a mother through a most difficult time. He provided a mother’s restoration. Jesus raised from death the only son of a widowed woman. From this story we should focus on the two crowds, two sons, and two enemies. Luke 7:11-17

Two Crowds

One crowd is the widow who has lost her son. They are leaving the city in grief to bury the man. The other crowd is following Jesus and His disciples into the city. They are rejoicing and happy to be following God. One crowd is celebrating life the other crows is mourning death. One crowd has salvation and one does not. In at the same way if we are followers of the Lord Jesus, we have life. John 3:36

Two Sons

Two men, the only sons of their mother met this day. One was alive but destined to die, the other dead but destined to live. You need to trust Jesus Christ and be raised from the dead. Ephesians 2:6

Two Enemies

Life and death are the two enemies. Jesus is Lord of eternal life and the devil is the thief who comes to kill, steal, and destroy. Through Jesus, death has lost its sting and the grave has lost its victory. Death has no power in the presence of Jesus. 1 Corinthians 15:56-58

When the Lord saw this hurting mother who had suffered so much He had compassion on her. Jesus had only to speak the word and the boy was raised to life and health. A mother’s restoration was given through an incredible act of tenderness of giving this son back to his rejoicing mother. This whole scene reminds us of what will happen when the Lord returns and we are reunited with our loved ones who have gone to glory.
