Everyone of us face those moments where we know God will keep us, but can we persevere through the trials. No doubt we’ve all had moments where we have said “I have had enough”. We’ve said I don’t want to do this anymore. A different song could be “Lord if You’ll have me, I’ll follow You whatever may come.” God has sufficient grace to renew your strength.

The great heroes of the Bible show us how to persevere. They set an example of how when we get down it’s the Lord that picks us up to carry on. God’s word can be a fire in our bones. His word in our soul will lift us up to carry on.

In 1 Kings Ahab and his wife Jezebel are in power. They have declared God dead and have set up worship of the idol Baal. Elijah is sent by God to declare that God is alive and the one God in power. Elijah declares that he has stood before God and He is with me wherever I go. Today we can stand before God and be confident that He is with us wherever we go.

We walk by what we know and not by what we see. Jezebel threatened Elijah, whose name means, the Lord is my God, and he ran from what he saw. Elijah went into the wilderness alone. Depressed, afraid, despondent Elijah prays for God to take his life. I have had enough.

An angel of of the Lord came to him and gently woke him and offered him water and food. God is the refreshment of our soul. He will come to where we are for comfort and to sustain us. He will stay with us and revive us as much as is required. God will provide the strength to stand up against what the world brings. We have to carry this message of God’s provision to the world.

We get so caught up in the big things that we miss God when He speaks and moves. When Elijah was hiding in the cave, he witnessed a strong wind, an earthquake and fire. But God was in a whisper when He spoke to him. The whisper of God’s love and mercy got Elijah’s attention. God sent Elijah to not only Jezebel but to the outer lands to proclaim Him as God of all the world for all generations.
