“Worthy Is The Lamb” (Revelation 5:11–12)

The Necessity of Salvation

Humanity stands in desperate need of salvation, yet no man, no system, and no effort can make us worthy before a holy God. Every person falls short of His glory, and no amount of morality, religion, or good works can bridge the gap. Salvation is not earned—it is received. This truth points us to the only hope: Jesus Christ.

The Search for Worthiness

In Revelation 5:1–3, John sees a sealed book in the hand of God—representing authority, dominion, and redemption. A strong angel proclaims, “Who is worthy to open the book?” The search extends through Heaven, Earth, and under the Earth, yet no one is found worthy. This reveals the universal failure of mankind. Even the greatest figures—Adam, Abraham, Moses, David—could not meet the standard of perfect worthiness.

The Sorrow of Unworthiness

John weeps because no one is found worthy to open the book (Revelation 5:4). This sorrow reflects humanity’s helpless condition. Without Christ, man is lost, broken, and unable to redeem himself. This moment highlights the necessity of divine intervention—salvation must come from above.

The Victory of the Lamb

In Revelation 5:5, the answer is revealed: “Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah… hath prevailed.” Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, has conquered sin, Satan, death, and the grave. Through His life, crucifixion, and resurrection, He alone has prevailed. He is not only willing—He is worthy.

The Lamb That Was Slain Yet Standing

In Revelation 5:6, John sees a Lamb “as it had been slain,” yet standing. This powerful image shows both sacrifice and victory. Jesus bore the marks of crucifixion, yet He stands alive—victorious over death. His resurrection proves His authority and power.

The Worthy Lamb Receives Worship

In Revelation 5:11–12, countless angels and heavenly beings declare with a loud voice:
“Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, riches, wisdom, strength, honor, glory, and blessing.”
All Heaven worships Jesus Christ because He alone is worthy. He alone holds the right to open the book and fulfill God’s redemptive plan.

The Redemption of Every Nation

Through His blood, Jesus has redeemed people “out of every kindred, tongue, people, and nation” (Revelation 5:9). His sacrifice unites all believers into one family. No matter your background, culture, or past, the Lamb offers redemption and new life.

And I saw in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne a scroll written inside and on the back, sealed with seven seals. Then I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the scroll and to loose its seals?” And no one in heaven or on the earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll, or to look at it.

So I wept much, because no one was found worthy to open and read the scroll, or to look at it. But one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals.”

And I looked, and behold, in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent out into all the earth. Then He came and took the scroll out of the right hand of Him who sat on the throne.

Worthy Is the Lamb

Now when He had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. And they sang a new song, saying:

“You are worthy to take the scroll,
And to open its seals;
For You were slain,
And have redeemed us to God by Your blood
Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation,
10 And have made us kings and priests to our God;
And we shall reign on the earth.”

11 Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne, the living creatures, and the elders; and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands, 12 saying with a loud voice:

“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
To receive power and riches and wisdom,
And strength and honor and glory and blessing!”
