We Need Christmas
The Jewish people had a promise made hundreds of years earlier of peace and a savior. They needed Christmas. We need Christmas.
At the time of Jesus’s birth, there was much political and religious turmoil. The Roman Empire was forcing conformity to the Greek tradition. But the Jewish people had a promise made hundreds of years earlier of peace and a savior. They needed Christmas. We need Christmas.
This mirrors what is happening in our world today. There are wars, famine, political unrest, moral depravity. We are looking for a savior today just as they were looking for His first coming so many, many years ago. We have a hope for a promise of a second coming to bring peace and an end to strife and sadness.
The story of the night of Jesus’s birth is well known. The old, old story is the same and has the same power. God’s word is the same and has the same power. God’s word is the greatest hope builder we have. The world needs a savior.
Genesis tells about the conversation between Satan and Eve. It is the beginning of the tale of our adversary. Satan’s goal is to slander and scandalize our witness. He seeks who he can devour. Adam and Eve, as well as all humanity, were created in God’s image. God’s greatest desire is to fellowship with us that we may know Him. Satan’s goal is to contradict God’s word.
What was lost in the garden, we recovered in the birth of Jesus. Satan tried to talk Eve out of what was already given to her. He told her what God has given her wasn’t good enough. For many centuries, God showed Himself through miraculous events and promises through prophets. But the first mention of the promise of Jesus was given in the curse on Satan in Genesis 3:15.
Genesis 3:15
And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and you shall bruise his heel.
This seed was given to a girl from Nazareth. She gave birth to a child that fulfilled the promise of a savior. A virgin birth conceived of the Holy Spirit foretold by the angel Gabriel. Genesis tells of the first provision of the shedding of blood to cover the sins of Adam and Eve.
Genesis 3:21
Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them.
Jesus shed His blood to cover the sins of the world. God promised and gave us something that cannot be taken away from us. God became flesh and drew us to Him as a holy nation and His children. We need Christmas.
