Jesus sees you in your place of brokenness and calls you to leave it behind—decide today in your heart to rise up and follow Him.

The Place Where Jesus Finds Us

In Luke 5:27-28,  Levi (Matthew) sitting at the receipt of custom—a place of wealth, yet deep spiritual misery. Though outwardly successful, inwardly he was empty, rejected, and far from God. This “seat” represents more than a physical location; it symbolizes a condition of the heart—bound by sin, from purpose, and disconnected from God. Many today sit in similar places, thinking success, pleasure, or independence will satisfy, only to discover the same emptiness.

The Call That Changes Everything

Jesus passed by and saw Levi—not just his actions, but his condition. Then came two powerful words: “Follow Me.” This call was not based on Levi’s worthiness, but on grace. Just as Jesus called fishermen, He called a tax collector—proving that no past disqualifies a person from a future with Him. The same call still goes out today: leave the old life and step into something greater.

The Decision Before the Movement

Verse 28 reveals a critical truth: “And he left all, rose up, and followed Him.” Before Levi ever stood up, he left it in his heart and mind. Real transformation begins internally. Many want change without surrender, but Levi shows us that true freedom starts when we settle it within: “I’m not going back.” The outward step follows the inward decision.

Leaving More Than a Place

Levi didn’t just leave a job—he left a lifestyle. Following Jesus requires more than acknowledgment; it requires separation from what once held us captive. We cannot follow Christ while clinging to the very things He’s calling us out of. Salvation is not partial—it is a complete transformation.

A Life That Points Others to Jesus

In Luke 5:29, Levi hosts a gathering and brings others to meet Jesus. His transformation became a testimony. Those once part of his old life were now invited to encounter new life. When Jesus lifts us from misery, He gives us purpose—to lead others to Him.

27 After these things He went out and saw a tax collector named Levi, sitting at the tax office. And He said to him, “Follow Me.” 28 So he left all, rose up, and followed Him.

29 Then Levi gave Him a great feast in his own house. And there were a great number of tax collectors and others who sat down with them.
