Deuteronomy 17:14-20
Our God is the king of all the earth. He will always do right. God is the righteous one and desires to commune with us, bestow on us all blessings and eternal life. He established Himself as king over the nation of Israel but made provision for a human king who would not replace Him, but represent God to the people.
When God set Saul as the first king of Israel, He commanded he have a copy of the law in a book. Saul was to read this all the days of his life. Saul became so familiar with sacred things that he eventually lost respect for the sacred things. God judged Saul and put David on the throne.
God’s promise with Abraham was continued with David. And the book of the commandments of God was given to David. He was commanded to keep the laws in the book to uphold the covenant God made with him.
David was called the man after God’s own heart despite the number of sins David committed. Satan tried to convince David he has gone too far. David always repented and clung to God. David wouldn’t allow Satan to convince him to run away.
Psalm 89:3-4
The promise that David’s house and throne would be established eternally is important because it is a prophecy concerning the coming Messiah coming from the house of David. God’s promises are in our Bibles. Reading His word teaches you to fear the Lord and fear of the Lord is very beneficial. It is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge. In it is strong confidence and the fear of the Lord is a fountain of life.
Deuteronomy 17:19
