In a recent gathering, I heard a child tell its mother that they were bored. The child said there is nothing to do where they were. How often have you felt bored? How often have you allowed your life to become boring? The lack of excitement can be a dangerous position to be in. Your life becomes a rut where nothing new and exciting is happening. Friendships crumble when they get boring. Marriages fall apart when they get boring. Jobs become a real task when they are boring. Churches decrease when they become boring. We all need and look for excitement in our lives. As we come to the end of the old year and begin our plans for the new year, are we going to continue in the same old ruts or are we planning something new. (Isaiah 43:18-19 Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. 19. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.) Don’t get so caught up in the trap of doing the same thing over and over because it’s the easy thing to do. God created us to need variety and diversity. We need freshness and newness in our life. As you plan for the New Year, make a conscious decision to step out into the new thing God has for you. Do something new and exciting and don’t forget to enjoy yourself along the journey. God wants us to be faithful, not boring. Life doesn’t have to be the same old rut.
