I listened to Bible verses being quoted at a friend’s memorial service and I thought how fitting those words were for the moment. It was if God was speaking to the crowd himself. It is not always easy to know it is God speaking to us. Sometimes it’s difficult to know if it is instruction from God or a deception from the devil, or just something that I want to do. People have blamed a lot of bad things on God, saying God told me to do it. You must learn to define who is talking to you. (Luke 21:33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.) There are a few things to remember when you are trying to determine who is talking with you. God will never contradict His Word. If it is God, what you are hearing will agree with the Bible. It will never change, God doesn’t say one thing today and another next week. God is consistent. God isn’t moody. God doesn’t change his mind. If God is talking to you, you can always find the foundation in the Bible. Don’t be directed in any direction until you determine who is talking to you.
