God is the First Priest Who Chose Us Into Priesthood
God has called us into a royal priesthood to serve and guide all the world into the knowledge of our good and merciful God.
Through sanctification the will to sin is burned from our testimony. We should have a testimony that honors and represents our good and just God. We are a priesthood of believers. A priesthood is a group that serves. A priest goes before God for people and is eternally a witness to the world. In today’s culture, servanthood is not the mentality but being served is the predominant way of thought. We must graduate from the pediatrics of faith to become one who stands between God and humans, one who approaches God of the sake of humans.
Spiritually an undertow of today’s culture can sweep you up and carry you out without you even knowing that something devastating and catastrophic is happening to you. You won’t even realize that you have become selfish, self’ consumed, hard, cold, judgmental, critical. That’s when people get the “leave mentality”. They leave their job, leave their marriage, leave their kids! In this culture, people are not taught to serve they are taught to receive.
In all the furniture of the temple, there was no chair. That’s because God never intended for the priesthood to sit down. The priestly duties were perpetual. It’s difficult to serve and sit. Constant worship should go up to God. Despite the afflictions of this world God’s grace is sufficient to be in constant service to God.
1 Peter 2:1-10
Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, 2 as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, 3 if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
4 Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious, 5 you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 6 Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture,
“Behold, I lay in Zion
A chief cornerstone, elect, precious,
And he who believes on Him will by no means be put to shame.”
7 Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious; but to those who [b]are disobedient,
“The stone which the builders rejected
Has become the chief cornerstone,”8 and
“A stone of stumbling
And a rock of offense.”
They stumble, being disobedient to the word, to which they also were appointed.
9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 10 who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.
In the garden, God rose and searched to find fallen man. Adam didn’t cry out to God. Adam didn’t go on the hunt for God. Our God is the one who went on the hunt for Adam. The voice that spoke at the book and saved the life of Elijah, that voice that summoned a prophet from the cave at Horeb, that voice that will one day shake the earth once again is the voice that searched for fallen man. Our God will come to us.
The sitting God stood so that He could save fallen man. God searched as a priest. God made the first move to extend mercy for a condemned humanity. It was God who shed the blood took the skins, and made clothes for the naked humans to hid their shame.
Genesis 3:8
And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day; and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden.
Satan hates us because we have been given the job of priesthood. The priesthood of believers should speak the same language in serving the world to guide all we come in contact with to our good and merciful God. As a royal priesthood, we are both king and priest. Lion and lamb. Walk like a king, serve like a priest. We are both royalty and servants.
