We Have An Advocate

You have probably heard the phrase “If you can’t afford an attorney, one will be appointed to you”. We have an attorney, an advocate in heaven, to defend us from the accuser.

Just like in a courtroom, there is a judge, a prosecutor, and a defense attorney. The best part about this is that our defense attorney is the judge’s son. And, the judge says, “because of my son, I declare you innocent.”

1 John 2: 1-2
My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

The Judge

God told Abraham that he was going to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah. Abraham interceded for Sodom and Gomorrah, and asked if the Judge of all the earth should not do what’s right.

Genesis 18:25
25 That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?

We are going to be judged according to God’s word and our works.

Revelation 20:11-13
11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.

The Judge Hates Sin

God hates sin because it separates us from God. It pulls us away from Him, and brings destruction.

Psalms 45:7
Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

An Accuser

There will always be someone trying to accuse you and try to keep you bound so you can’t be redeemed by God. The devil will try to prosecute you and bring charges against you to God. The word says he accused them to God day and night. This implies that he is doing it over and over, and he’s probably bringing up stuff to you that God has already forgiven. The devil wants to keep you in yesterday.

Revelation 12: 9-11
And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. 10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. 11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

But We Have An Advocate

There is a grace clause. God does not want us to sin, but His word says that IF we do, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.

1 John 2: 1-2
My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
