A Charge That Must Be Kept

The word of God is filled with charges. Sadly in our world in Christianity, we don’t do well with charges. We don’t like to be charged or pushed. We like our comfort. God is charging us to be the church He needs us to be. There is a charge to the church of the living God.

In this passage of Chronicles David is about to die and he’s about to give his throne to his son. David has been storing up supplies and materials to build a new temple. He is about to pass along the materials and the plans to his 16 year old son. David gave his son Solomon 3 charges:

1) Know the God of your Father

David didn’t say “know of” or “know about” God. David wanted his son to have a personal relationship with God. He wanted Solomon to know the God that had been with David when he was facing the giant and the same God that protected him when he was being hunted down. He wanted him to know the God that did not leave him when he committed adultery and murder. God has not changed. He is still the same God today, yesterday and forever. You can still have a personal relationship with the God of heaven. You can know his faithfulness, his mercy and his grace. There is still a God that deliver! Tell your children about this God and what he has done.

Serve him with a perfect heart and willing mind

David told Solomon to serve God with an undivided heart and mind. That means acknowledging that your heart, your body, your deeds and actions belong to God. You can’t have one foot in the church and the other in the world, and not have a half hearted religion. It’s to acknowledge that God is your everything and you love Him. David points out Solomon that

2) Seek God

If you seek him, you will find him. If you don’t seek God, you won’t find him. So many times we expect God to show up for us in our time of need and work a miracle, but we don’t seek Him. If you don’t pray and don’t have a relationship with him, why would expect him to show up? David told Solomon to pray and seek God. So many of our issues could be resolved if we would go to the alter and seek God’s face. God gave us a mediator- an intercessor. If we seek God, we will find him.

3) Do for God

Take heed now. We must be awake, aware, sober, and vigilant. The church has to be awake and know the time is coming when Jesus is coming back. We do not have time to waste. We need to know where we stand. Take heed because the Lord has chosen you. You are not just here wasting time on this planet. God has chosen you and he has a plan for your life. God does not just dwell in the building. We have to be the temple of the Holy Ghost. God is challenging us to be the building of his presence. David knew that Solomon would face a lot of opposition, and he told him to be strong. We have to be strong. As Christians, we face oppositions everyday, but we have to remember that we are chosen and God has a plan for us. Seek God and harden your heart toward the world that hates your Lord. God wants you to know him and seek him with all our heart and do his work for our life.

1 Chronicles 28:9-10
And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the Lord searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever.10 Take heed now; for the Lord hath chosen thee to build an house for the sanctuary: be strong, and do it.
